Psychologist in Delaware | Practice Description

My Practice

Psychology PracticeI enjoy working with adults and older adults on issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, coping with stress, and life-role changes.

I work with you to understand your needs and concerns, and tailor my clinical approach to you.  I integrate Somatic Experiencing®, mindfulness, parts work, and Cognitive Therapy to alleviate suffering, expand coping skills, and heal underlying problems. When appropriate, I tend to use shorter-term therapy, and focus on your present-day concerns.

My style is collaborative, empathetic, active, and practical. Clients generally describe me as warm, caring, and interactive in sessions.

Areas of Interest

Geropsychology

Although I work with adults of all ages, I have specialized training and many years of experience in GeropsychologyGeropsychology is the field of psychology that focuses on psychological, behavioral, social, and biological concerns that are pertinent to older adults. Many of my clients are struggling to cope with difficult losses and changes. For example, medical illness or even age-related physical changes can interfere with being able to do the things we enjoy or need to do. Being a caregiver for a spouse, older family member, or an adult child can be overwhelming. Finally, the loss of a spouse or even a child can be devastating. Whatever the struggle, I work together with my clients to help them have the best possible life.

Trauma

One way of thinking about trauma is to understand it as the nervous system being “stuck,” or unable to fully recover from overwhelming experience. These experiences may be obvious, such as a violent attack or car accident. Less dramatic events can also “injure” the nervous system. In addition to being the cause of classic symptoms of post traumatic stress, trauma can be an underlying cause of depression, anxiety, and other mental health diagnoses. I find this to be the case in many of my clients. We work together to heal and create resilience and vitality.
